MyChef

Remember my post last week about stocking up on MyChef products?

I did exactly that. I bought all the flavours I could get my hands on, except for the brown rice and butter rice pilaf.

So in the wee hours of Sunday morning, I decided to give the Gulai Udang Serai and Semur Daging Betawi a try. Both these dishes are from Chef Ismail. I was feeling quite excited. I have numerous times had my lunch at Rebung and I was really looking forward to his instant dish. I mean, all I had to do was cook rice and microwave the two dishes. Nuke it for 4 mins and it would be done and ready to eat!

The gulai udang was okay. Reminded me of lauk rumah orang kawin actually. But it wasn't how I would expect it to be.

As for the Daging Semur Betawi. My first reaction when I took a bite was MANISNYA! Like really, it was a tad too sweet for my liking. I think given some adjustments it would turn out alright. But these two dishes sort of compliment each other and having them both for sahur wasn't a bad move either.

I look forward to try the Mughlai Chicken Biryani this coming weekend. We'll let you guys know how it goes.

Ramadhan Kareem

Assalamualaikum Wbt...

I am unbelievably excited about tomorrow. Cause it's the first day of Ramadhan and my first ramadhan as a 'hijabi'. (Eh, ada ke that word?) :P

Insya Allah I hope to make this Ramadhan a meaningful one. Cuba untuk memperbanyakkan ibadah kalau boleh. And other good deeds along the way. Semoga niat dipermudahkan Allah SWT.

Ramadhan would also mean waking up earlier than usual and start preparing meals for my two adorable heroes (yes, Ian's giving fasting a month a try this year albeit only for a few hours). So I have to make sure that I have good, healthy and delicious meals prepared. Only drawback is, I am not much of a cook. Well maybe I can, if I try but preparing meals in the wee hours of the morning? I don't quite trust myself there. karang lain jadinya. Unless I could just whip up something so basic and simple like scramble eggs. tapi rasa berdosa kepada hubby. hahaha! kesian dia, bangun pagi2 makan scramble eggs jer.

Anyways back to preparing meals. I have found a good solution to my problems. I have decided to stock my fridge with those instant ready meals from mychef. I have come across many reviews and all seems in favour of the dishes. So why not? All I would need to do is basically cook rice (for lauk pauk dishes). And if I feel like having beriani, I can just heat the whole packet in one go.

Alhamdulillah, my problems answered. To the hypermarket I go today! :D

blessed friday

i am blessed in many ways, without me even realizing it sometimes.

like how i can never ever die of starvation here, at the office. i've a cafeteria downstairs on the 1st floor, and there's the tea lady who also sells food (as her side income) on the 3rd floor. and the food's good.

so i know that i can never nor have any reason to be hungry here, in this office.

nasi lemak on a friday morning, lovely!

the best karipap sardin i've ever had! filled with loads of sardines... :)

i'm glad that i chose to work here in the end. well yeah, i am earning slightly lower that what i was used to at my previous workplace, but hey, a place where i can just come in wearing jeans and my ever reliable havainnas? i shouldn't even be complaining!

have a lovely friday peeps!!

cheers to the mid week!

weekends are fun, but for a PH to fall mid-week is just awesome!!! yoddelahihooooooo!!!!

had a good sleep in. thought i wouldn't be able to go back to sleep after suboh prayers but i did! and lovely slumber it was. woke up thinking that it's probably noon, only to see that it was only 9.26 a.m. oh well, all the best we can go for a movie later. yay!!!!

had din dins with the girls last night. one of us just recently got her bonus. we were practically digging her ribs begging her to tell us how much did her co declared this time around. last year it was at 13 months. we didn't  feel that it could exceed anywhere beyond that but apparently her co declared 16 months this year. holy guacomoly!!!! 16 freaking months!!! i am to be at her co next. no compromise.:D

anyways, it was lovely catching up. dinner was at TGI friday's and i was told that the one at alamanda was the only one with the halal cert propped up at the door. it's like this, other TGI's serves halal meat too, but because they also have liquor in house they can't put up the halal certificate. it's also the same for chilli's, victoria station and a few others. but fret not because the meats are all halal. so don't get confused here ya.

anyways, i gotta log off and hit the showers. we are going to watch mirror mirror today (although Ian specifically mentioned that he wants to watch cerita gangster with a pirate ship which ladies and gents, does not exist at all). thanks.

small pic due to smaller resolution.

mochi sweets!!

credit pic- justanothergirllivinginthecommodifiedworld

i love japanese food, especially when it's the garlic rice, chawa mushi, miso soup and salmon teriyaki combo. but i was not much of a japanese dessert person. never actually took the liberty to learn nor try, except for the green tea with red beans ice cream that is. also some other japanese ice cream (kukerikan or something like that) from MOF (where has it moved to by the way? i couldn't find it at Pavillion last two weekends). :(

so when my friend annie suggested that we try mochi sweets, i wasn't entirely sure but pretty game about it. i mean, she described it as cold chewy pau. okay, doesn't sound tempting but when we got to the kiosk, i couldn't help being attracted to the array of mochis sold there!! i think i did try mini versions of this in my ice cream at MOF!! but the ones sold here are bigger, fatter, rounder... i've got to try it!!

and tried i did. i bought only two mochis though - mango filling and red been paste. annie got herself the green tea one. we were told to only consume our mochies after 30 minutes or so because it's currently frozen, so we needed to that it for a bit.

so, me being me... i couldn't wait 30 minutes. not when the mochis were practically calling out to me from its bag... "eat me! eat me!!"... i think it was already closed to half an hour anyways. or maybe it was just 15 minutes but i just couldn't resist taking a bite and and when i tried the mango one, OMG... it was absolutely yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i feel like kissing the steering wheel there and then (no relation, i know)... it was lovely. it had a bit of the sorbet tasts and really creamy inside. and the chewy mochi skin makes it an awesome combo!! same goes for the red bean one. wasn't disappointing at all. i just had to bbm annie asking if she's had hers (which she obviously hadn't, being the very rule obliging girl that is)... :p she actually waited 30 minutes okay... but when she did she went OMG too... so we came to our very own conclusion that yes, these mochis were seriously damn good!! :D

i love mochi now. and i plan to get myself half a dozen mochis today. no, i don't plan to share it with anyone. probably with ian cause he's my son after all. :P

if you do plan to get yourself some mochis, you can either go to the old but newly renovated wing at One Utama or you can just head to tokyo street pavillion (6th floor i think) or the gardens. and for us muslims, don't worry about any gelatine ingredients or it not being halal because they do not use any form or animal extract / gelatine etc etc, everything is vegetables based. YAY!

so happy mochi-ing people!!!!!

omm nomm nomm noommm... :)

ben's

i've found new love, and ben's the name.

i used to frequent ben's pavi. it feels so right being there, with good company to just enjoy the food and catch up with old times.

but i've stopped doing that entirely now that i'm back to working and location wise, it's just to not too convenient anymore.

there is a closer ben's alternative. if you go to bangsar village. there's ben's general food store. but the one in bangsar feels more like a cafeteria than anything else. the menu's much simpler, and cost slightly lesser than it's other counterpart. there's also another one in publika (solaris dutamas). it's called Ben's Independent Grocer and that one is just awesome!!! one of these days, i plan to take a half day off and just go spend my time alone stuffing myself sill with their caesar salad... it's just so good!!!

like seriously, how can you not go i want this, and this and this when you see such awesome display of food??!!! but yes, coming from someone who is literally anti-veggies ( i don't eat them actually) i'm now NOT getting enough of their caesar salad and just the very thought of it makes me want to leave the office pronto!!!!

think i will go get 'em tomorrow... yay!! :D

humble setting, brilliant food!!!

Now, I should make clear that this is not a foodie blog. never intended to be. But right now, it's all that I could think off (and I mean the food) that I just have to share it with you guys reading. I mean, how could I keep it all to myself, when it's something so good? :)

Now, I knew nuts about this place too, untill I was told about it by my sis in law. She and her hubby I tell you, are real foodies. They will go practically everywhere just to give good food a try, and their personal reviews (so far) have been worth noting.

And to The Humble Chef we went last night. Ordered two sets of lamb pitas, one lamb omelette and two packs of choc chips cookies. Food were very reasonable priced and because it was still drizzling when we got there, we definitely did not have to wait long.

Boy was the food awesome!!!! The pita was filled with loads of meat and cheese and for that price you pay? It's more that what a person could have bargained for. Of course I was (then) a bit sceptical about the lamb omelette I ordered for Ian in case it turned out a very weird-tasting combo, (they do have another option - chicken) but because I just love lamb, I decided to have everything in lamb fillings. My doubts did not last long though because Ian (my son) loved it to bits!

The cookies were great too! Wished it was bigger but for RM4 a pack, it really is a good price for such delicious choc chips. Even hubby agreed that the food are indeed value for money and that we should order more the next time ago (yes, we sometimes do cave in to gluttony). they do have spaghettis and others on the menu so maybe you guys could check it out when you make a visit to The Humble Chef.

And I think I should make another trip soon. Real soon...  Like tonight soon... :p

a self proclaimed addiction

I was never much of a cadbury fan. All my life, my preference to chocolate would either be reese's peanut butter cupcakes (owh, i do still love 'em!), snicker bars, and of course... m&m's peanut chocolates. i did went through a phase of eating only kinder bueno... i practically mentally harassed my SIL back then to help get me boxes of kinders just so it will never run out, and that i will always have a box to spare at home.

I was in london with  An (my hubby) and Ian (my bodyguard son) in march this year and we did make a trip to cadbury world located in birmingham. I guess I had this vision of cadbury world to be like something from charlie and the chocolate factory, only that I was met with what else? a FACTORY that looks just like any other chocolate producing factory that you might come across in malaysia. Disappointed? maybe.. I mean, all the hype about cadbury world... tsk tsk...  but we were there and so we did the tour around the factory (unfortunately, most sections were closed) so we did not get to see much. But they do have a good cafeteria that serves delicious fish & chips (that's a plus) and of course, the chocolate corner where you could buy as many chocs produce from cadbury. They even have a discounted chocs section where the chocs were being sold at cheaper prices but with a shorter 'used by' date too...

yeap, that's me at cadbury world birmingham

the chocolate store

Anyways, chocs shopping I did that day and I still remember loading on cadbury hot choc powder drinks, cadbury flakes, cadbury chocs by the bars (i bought nearly all flavours) to give to friends and families but cadbury fingers? i didn't come across any! i seem to have forgotten that they have cadbury fingers too and it did not crossed my mind until I came across them fingers about a month ago, at a local kedai runcit nearby my parents' house.
